A press release from the DOT Conditions deteriorating rapidly in northern and eastern Iowa tonight AMES, Iowa – Jan. 26, 2014 –6 p.m. The strong winds that followed today’s snowfall are causing significant travel problems in northeast Iowa tonight. Due to the dangerous white out conditions, Iowa DOT snowplows have been pulled off the road east of Waterloo. Roads in that area have become impassible. Iowa DOT crews will resume operations when it is safe to do so. For the remainder of northern Iowa, travel is currently not advised and tow bans are in place. For details on specific roads, log on to 511ia.org and click on the full feature version. Motorists are urged to evaluate the need to travel in extreme conditions. If you must travel, be sure to monitor road conditions and Iowa DOT snow plow locations by using the winter driving resources listed under the travel section of the Iowa DOT website, iowadot.gov. # Sounds like the best bet is to stay where you are tonight.
