A propos of nothing, has anyone else ever thought the story of King Saul was either very unfair or very fishy? First, Saul doesnt want to be king. He hides among the mules rather than be anointed. But Samuel forces him to be king, leading to the inevitable disaster. Then he has mercy on the Amalekites and is punished for disobeying God (as told to Samuel). Then, the long and the short of it is that God “rejects” Saul, saying to Samuel: “How long will you grieve over Saul? I have rejected him from being king over Israel.” (Does God reject the person he has chosen?) Then comes David and all the rest. But of course, the history was written by the victors, the chroniclers of the temple period, so the story is probably skewed to show that Saul was the wrong person and David the right person, seeing that David’s descendants were now in power. Ive always been disturbed by the Saul story.
