A quad-copter with a camera takes train watching to a whole new - TopicsExpress

A quad-copter with a camera takes train watching to a whole new level! A short video I shot yesterday near Hagersville, Ontario of the Southern Ontario Railway doing some switching. The perspective from above will most likely appeal to model railroaders as its a familiar view. The biggest hurdle to this amazing new technology is no matter how you do it, you will always look suspicious while recording. Seeing a camera flying around you while you go about your business is a bit creepy, even though 99% of the time the person flying and recording has little or no interest in what you are doing. Nonetheless, getting imagery like this is worth the effort. Hopefully when more video like this gets around people will be less concerned about what it appears like from the ground, and more intrigued at the results. Yesterday was a very windy and gusty day, and this location was surrounded with lots of wires and poles, so the flying was pretty conservative compared to what it would be if I had more space to really get moving. The train crew was curious, and I suspect suspicious as well, but I did get a few friendly waves. This time.
