A question for my black brothers and sisters, Im just wondering: - TopicsExpress

A question for my black brothers and sisters, Im just wondering: In light of the Donald Sterling and Boston Bruins events (funny how we focus on sports as opposed to other professions where peoples tongues have gotten them into trouble, i.e. Christian Bale, Mel Gibson, etc.), would you even care about racism if you had enough money in your pockets and your family was well taken care of? Why does this issue of racism still inflame so much if you can still get yours in this society in 2014? If you truly believe that it will never go away, then why do so many spend so much time and energy on it, as opposed to getting yours? I guess, Im asking, why focus on the vestiges that remain of racism instead of marking the progress thats been made and encouraging more of it? What kind of sparked this question for me was boarding an airplane and seeing a white couple with four boys yesterday (three white), including a young black one about 3 saying that he wanted to sit with daddy. Shouldnt we be up in arms about the black children in foster homes? What about the everyday violence that we either joke about or have become numb to? The breakdown of family and continued fear of snitching so that crime perpetrators remain on the street? Are our priorities in the right place? I really just want to know since I see so many of your news feeds decrying racism left and right. Help me to see where youre coming from. :)
