A question to the naturalists/recorders - When making a record from your wildlife sightings what resolution of Grid Reference do you use and why ??? My own view is that the higher the resolution the better (as records can always be plotted at a lower resolution should such be required) - so I would normally choose a GR of at least 6-figures (e.g. SJ543826) but if I can I will go to 8 or even 10 figures (modern zoomable web-based techniques make this easy). However, I find many recorders only record at 4-figure references and these can never be plotted at higher resolutions. Thoughts please ???
