A quick question for a Sunday evening. About four years ago I loaned £600 to a friend. He wasnt a great friend but he seemed desperate for the money and so I agreed to loan it to him, believing he was good for it. As it was not an insignificant amount of money every year I give him a nudge and ask him when he plans on paying me back, even suggesting he deposits £50 a month into my account just to show willing. A few months ago I messaged his teenage daughter asking if she had a known address for him so I could pursue the recovery of the money via Small Claims Court. It turns out that he has a string of debts, not least to his ex-partner to whom he has never paid child support. After hearing this I figured I better drop everything but she insisted that I try and recover the money as was only right. In any case, I feel that the only way that Im ever going to see anything from this man is if I name and shame him. This is not my way but honestly I cant think of any other way to get the money back I am owed. Is there ever justification for naming and shaming and, if so, is this one of those occasions?
