A quick visit on a working weekend to Sewri, Mumbai. Sewri a best place to see waders and mainly Flamingos. Though its still very early to see Flamingos I decided late night to visit the place. 15mins drive early morning (no traffic and rather cooler climate). Since it was a working weekend for me reaching office from Sewri would take me other 20 mins. I did not bother about the tide time cause I want to spend sometime early in the morning not sleeping but birding. As usual I was late to get up (lazy me), I reached the place by 0715hrs. From the jetty it did not look promising so I took the other path and went inside. Loads of Black-tailed Godwit and other waders sighted... ahhh!!!!!! I was delighted and the excitement did not last longer a fisher man with a boat flew them away. All I was left with few waders and lot of terns flying around. Spent other 2 hrs sitting at one place to observe them. Few close encounter by Eurasian Curlew, Western Reef Egret and terns. Looking forward for a visit again by end of November 2013 or early December 2013. List of birds sighted today, White-throated Kingfisher (4) Common Kingfisher (1) Green Bee-eater (1) Asian Koel (female, 1) Indian Golden Oriole (a pair) Eurasian Curlew (2-3) Black-tailed Godwit (Huge flock) Grey Heron (2) Western Reef Egret (1) Little Stint (Huge flock) Curlew Sandpiper (20-30) Black-headed Ibis (1) Gull-billed Tern (5-10) Whiskered Tern (10-15) White Wagtail (2) Red-whiskered Bulbul (1) Little Egret (2) Great Egret (1) Lesser Sand Plover (5-10) Common Redshank (20-30) Common Sandpiper (5-10) Common Greenshank (3-5) Black Drongo (2)
