A quote from Ellen DeGeneres that simply proves how ignorant most people of teachers and their commitment to the teaching profession. She was interviewing a teacher who (gasp of amazement) spent money out of her own pocket for her classroom and Ms. DeGeneres said: We need more teachers like this. You havent spent one minute looking into the facts, have you, Ms. DeGeneres? If you had, youd find that MOST teachers spent money out of our own pockets (research shows that individual teachers spend over $500.00 of personal funds annually) for our students and/or classrooms. People who seem to think they know everything about teachers, teaching, and how to be a good teacher always seem to be the ones who prove the thesis the more incompetent you are about something, the less likely you are to THINK youre incompetent in that area. Just remember - Those who can, teach......those who cant, go into education reform.
