A quote today that I read in a story of another officer involved shooting: This latest incident comes in the wake of a number of high profile cases involving law enforcement officers in the deaths of unarmed ethnic minority citizens. As a former police officer, can I just say, WAKE UP! Police officers are people, who have lives and families just like the people that they have to deal with on a regular basis. I can tell you first hand that they dont always get it right when they make a decision....especially one that they must make in a split second, when those who will grade the decision made can take months or perhaps years to deliberate. Unarmed is a stupid term to me, because a 6 foot 6, 280 lbs Mommas baby boy has got not one, but TWO arms...and faced with a challenge like that in law enforcement, the threshold for the use of force, or the amount is dictated by the officer, the individual and the situation. No one wakes up putting their uniform on hoping to take a life of another person, I can tell you thats not why ANY of those who wear a badge every day put it on...Im certain that theres not a campaign thats now being circulated around the police departments of America that promotes the shooting of unarmed ethnic minority citizens. Weapon or no, the moment you do not comply with the officers instructions, or present that you have a weapon, even if only by verbal admission, youve created a situation that the officer is trained to respond to with a heightened sense of awareness, because his goal is to go home and see his family at night, just like every other hard working American in this country. So PLEASE let all this stupid race stuff go...are there racists police officers? SURE there are, just like there are racist doctors, bankers, preachers and daycare workers. Theres no higher a percentage in law enforcement. Racism must end by choice and the choice belongs to us all. If an officer makes a mistake, they should be dealt with, and we should not judge them because we werent there. We didnt see, hear, or experience what they did. If you think, well, I would have handled that differently then by ALL means, please make a trip to your local department and ask for an application...because after a few months of seeing the things those officers have to deal with and the bad that people can have inside of them, and ample time for your naivety to subside, maybe you can get out on a dark road with someone who makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up, let them be noncompliant, and make advances at you and see how YOU handle the situation....maybe go up and hug their neck and tell them youre not there to kill them and perhaps they will just bow out and surrender. After which, we will debate what YOU could have done differently so as to still be alive. #racismendswithus #ferguson #cnn #foxnews #stoptheviolence
