CITY OF B’HAM CH SHOW 13 - Border Collies Border Collies A wonderful entry, the highest in the group. I would take this to be fairly representative of the breed as it is so I have a few observations to make. Firstly movement, I found the majority moved atrociously, narrow behind, wide in front & very erratic. Most had good toplines so looking good going round. Please don’t go down the road of thinking fastest is best. A sound dog must first be sound away & back and then good going round. Some hind action was a fire hazard! Think about it! Secondly, very round eyes are creeping in giving untypical expressions, then wide apart ears with little or no lift & some stops much too deep. Type was all over the place with some classes looking like Any Variety Border Collie, so finding a line-up of typical animals that had quality & soundness was very difficult indeed. Many were very badly out of coat which is only temporary, & if the quality & movement warranted it they were not too heavily penalised. Body condition & temperament I found to be good. VD (4) 1 Beaumont’s Sh Ch Tonkory Illusion, quality b/w I have admired before. Lovely head, the darkest of eye giving good expression, strongly made, lovely bone & feet, firm topline & super hindquarters, good neck & outline, in tip top condition. Won on his absolute soundness of movement. CC & BOB, shortlisted in a very strong group; 2 Collier’s Beesting Indiana, 10 years b/w, in fine condition. Teeth a credit to his devoted owner. Pleasing head, lovely neck, well balanced, good bone & feet. Just not quite the impulsion on the move now; 3 Mann’s Borderpride Classic Affair. MPD (6) 1 Tunnicliff’s Littlethorn Triton, nice for size & very well developed in body, pleasing in head, lovley bone & feet. Won on his profile movement but a little erratic behind. BPD; 2 Hall & Jordan-Hall’s Locheil Rio Grande, loved this one for type, lovely head & eye, good neck. Somewhat shelly in body at present, not so positive in front; 3 Simmons & Strachan’s Simmovon Heaven On Earth. PD (3) 1 Singleton’s Centhelena Tick Tock, nice type of head. Ears wide & a little heavy. Good neck, lovely body, decent mover with lovely bone & feet. Much too low on leg which completely spoilt balance; 2 Withheld. JD (11) Movement a bit problem in this class. 1 Large h/f Thompson’s Anscot Elliot, won on his better type. Nice balance to outline, very pleasing in head, good bone & feet, good hindquarters. Only decent on the move; 2 Surridge’s Goytre Saucie Moment, very nice b/w, clean in outline & one who looked good going round. Moved very close behind. Typy head but eyes a little round; 3 Fawcett’s Laceway Photo Finish. YD (4) Poor class. 1 Tiller’s Foxbarton Kings Ransom, quite good in outline, decent body & coat. Moves close behind; 2 Garland’s Tonkory Doyle, glamorous b/w, moved close behind & handicapped by owner trying to keep his tail down; 3 Shahmatova’s Nashdon Unpredictable. GB (3) 1 G Saucie Moment; 2 N Unpredictable, ears too wide apart & moves close behind. Good body & condition. PGD (9) 1 Tasker’s Goytre Smokin Gun, easy winner of this class, masculine without being coarse, very nice type of Border, good outline, well built, kept his tail down. Could be that bit stronger in rear but excelled going round. Liked his head; 2 Ashman’s Bordadale Star Gazer, very glamorous, well bodied b/w, eyes a little round & could be darker. Only decent on the move but held himself well enough going round; 3 Lamberton’s Locheil Return To Oz. LD (11) 1 Collins’ Bordadale Blue Savannah, blue, won on his soundness going & coming & exceptional movement going round with good reach & drive. Lovely bone & feet, in good body & lovely coat. Light eyes stopped him from going further; 2 Hales’ Laceway Lone Ranger, lovely type b/w, so pleasing in most departments, very well made, good bone, feet & hindquarters. Good mover & held himself well going round. Just like a little more of him for a male; 3 Entwistle’s Beesting Buzzwagon. OD (4) Strongly contested class. 1 Lock’s Tonkory Zeze Peezey, really liked this b/w, excels in balance of outline, lovely bone & feet, good length of leg, lovely head, eye & ears, super topline, croup & tailset. In immaculate coat & condition, good in front & lovely going round with a reaching easy gait. Just travels that bit close behind. RCC; 2 Green’s Fayken I Am Legend, quality boy in lovely condition, pleasing in head & ears. Eyes could be that bit better. Would like a little more of him for a male. Decent coming & going, touch steep in croup, reaches out well going round. Can be careless with his front on the stack; 3 Gregory’s Sh Ch Tonkory Up And Coming. GCD (7) 1 B Indiana; 2 F Kings Ransom; 3 Davis’ Kinaway I Am Sir Matt for Jacamalis. VB (4) 1 Wiltshire & Wiltshire’s Caleykiz Rhythm Is A Dancer, very naughty blue, so feminine yet with lovely bone & substance throughout. Pretty head & eye, lovely body & coat, goes like an express train; 2 Tiller’s Foxbarton Lady In Waiting, prick-eared tri rising 10 years. Lovely body & coat, shows all the time, good head & expression. Still a very active mover; 3 Pepper’s Jakovall Lovers Ghost at PEdmore. MPB (3) 1 Turner & Alexander’s Locheil Love Me Tender, very pretty puppy, well shaped outline, good neck, sweet head & eye, lovely bone & feet, glamorous coat, so well presented, moved & showed well. BP & PG1; 2 Morley & Rogerson’s Chikaramor Born This Way, very well bodied tri, appealing head, lovely dark eyes. Bit rangier in type to 1, not quite the quarters of 1 but a decent mover; 3 Emery’s Altricia Lady Mae. PB (8) 1 Winup & Paipala’s Roganstock Born To Be Free, liked this b/w very much, lovely bone & feet, some substance to her yet so feminine, very well made, lovely head, darkest of eyes, good coat & outline, holds herself going round. Just a touch wide in front at present; 2 Birkett’s Birkcross Winter Witch, very pretty head, eye & ears, good neck & lovely outline, very good body, coat & presentation, goes well & looks good going round. Just like a little more substance to her; 3 Gregory & Clarke’s Tonkory Glitz And Glamour with Peluche. JB (11) 1 Macdonald’s Romiodor Shes All That, beautifully balanced b/w, good length of leg, lovely body & immaculate coat & condition. Good mover, held her outline going round. Such a pleasing head, eye & ears, super neck; 2 Kinton’s Kinaway Memories, very attractive b/w, somewhat out of coat. Pleasing in head & nice to go over, good behind. A little wide in front. Earned her place on the go round; 3 Birkett’s Centhelena Moment In Time for Birkcross. YB (9) 1 Moss’ Dorvale Blue Star, this well broken b/m appealed greatly, excelled in substance & construction, lovely size, super bone & feet, excellent hindquarters, in full coat & bloom. Good neck & topline, soundest in the class, all Border in head & ears. Liked her a lot. Handler must learn to do more for her; 2 Smith-Dodsworth’s Tudorhurst Fantasy for Bordercot, well balanced b/w, good length of leg, quality head, well constructed & in good condition, well muscled up, good coat. Not quite the hindquarters of 1 or the extension going round but still a good one; 3 Large’s Wizaland Cry Me A River. GB (7) 1 Barker & Young’s Jephanil Chequered Flag, ultra feminine, shapely outline, good shoulders & front, pretty head & ears, came into her own on the move & lovely going round; 2 Moran’s Altricia Lace In Love, quality b/w, in full coat & lovely condition, liked her type & beautiful body, good mover, very smart going round. Handler lets her be careless with her topline at times on the stack; 3 Kinton’s Kinaway Memories. PGB (12) 1 Morewood’s Wizaland Chase A Wish, b/w, pretty head & lovely dark eyes, very good neck & front assembly, well balanced outline, good construction. Little close away but excelled going round; 2 Lucas’ Aculsia Turn My Swag On, thought this quality b/w could be my winner. Liked her head, make & shape, super hindquarters & caught my eye going round. Comes toward that bit wide; 3 Tasker’s Goytre Smokin Sharps. LB (10) 1 Gregory’s Tonkory Wish You Were Here, very glamorous b/w, lovely head & expression, good neck, so well made throughout, firm topline, excellent quarters, good bone & feet, good mover particularly going round. Just like a little more length of leg; 2 Macdonald’s Locheil Just Cruisin, quality b/w, lovely head. Just not quite the expression of 1. Good neck, excellent body, lovely fallaway over the croup & a super very correct coat. Good mover but could use a little more length of leg to advantage; 3 Hartfield’s Moshanta Move It Move It. OB (12) Good class. 1 Porter’s Locheil By Invitation Only to Croxlea, b/w, stands & shows on a loose lead, presents a very well balanced outline. Liked her head, eye & ears very much, good bone, feet & length of leg, very good topline, good in front & lovely going round. In lovely condition. CC but just travels that bit close behind which cost her BOB; 2 Wiltshire & Wiltshire’s Caleykiz Tangled Rhythm, b/w, lovely size yet has super bone, feet & substance throughout. Very typy in head & eye, lovely body, ribbing & topline, strong quarters, good mover & comes into her own going round. Gives her handler a hard time at times. RCC; 3 Wilkinson’s Altricia Lady Jacqueline. GCB (7) 1 Richards’ Locheil I’m A Star, very glamorous b/w, pleasing in head & length of leg. Just a touch long cast which lost balance a little.
