A really cool thing happened while I was in Qatar. I have only a couple of pieces of jewelry that are real, and I was wearing my rose gold and diamond earrings the first time I went to the souk to shop. I tried on quite a few dresses, then realized on the way home that one earring was gone- probably got caught in the dress and pulled off. Needless to say I was pretty upset, but figured it was gone for good. About a week later, Josh Monds and I went back to the souk to shop, and I was going to try to remember which shops I had visited (its like s maze in there!) and see if it had been found. I didnt have much hope...someone could have made a good bit of money selling it. I found the first shop I had bought a dress from, and he greeted me with a smile when I asked if he had found an earring, and said he had been waiting for me to come back! He had kept it hoping I would return...how many people do you know who would have waited for a goofy tourist to come back?? I gave him some money as a thank you, which he tried to refuse, and when I insisted he asked us to come inside for tea. One of the many WONDERFUL people I met in an area where everyone supposedly hates Americans. A good lesson for me not to judge an entire country/religion by the loud, visible kooks!
