A recent article in psychology today quotes a small study that purported to show that obedience training NOT using purely positive methodology was more stressful to dogs. The ends do not justify the means. Artistic training is critical, regardless of method. But I would like to point out the dogs stress worse in shelters than in obedience classes. Tens of thousands of dogs are taken to shelters annually in the United States for behavior problems which could have easily been cured by an obedience class. The article mentions that learning was not measured in the study but in the real world learning actually COUNTS.
