A report came in from Abuja yesterday that Art is receiving low patronage in the capital city. What I diagnosed out of this was that these Artists have decided to remain in their studio as full time studio artists without reaching out. Can you consider what the outcome would be if every Artist isolate themselves in their studio without reaching out? How will the audience find them to patronize their Art? Art of our time has gone beyond just hand skill. We have our parts to play to make the people understand how professional our profession is. The era in which we find ourselves today has offered to us more creative means in which we can reach out to our audience. It is time Artists learn and practice various means to attract the attention of their audience so as to kill the low patronage of Art in our country. Lets consider these few tips which could help bridge the gap between us and our audience. 1. Artists should try and enrich themselves and their Art through the media. 2. Artist could win more attention by holding art workshops, art cafes, symposiums, and exhibitions at list twice a year. 3. It would make lots of sense if Artists could indulge into researches, finding new material to their rendition or developing new methods at which they could render a new or an existing material. Our audience are tired of seeing the same rendition over and over again. They now seek new minds & creativity in diverse renditions. 4. It is good to be predictable in our rendering but we are always free to borrow from a different pallet at times. Remember that ordinary minds do different things but a creative mind do things differently. 5. The government should organize an national annual Art Festival, a means to assist young and upcoming artist exhibit their creativity 6. To top it all, Artist should be religious. Put your trust in God and God alone and the tables would be turned around in favour of you. Good morning.
