A report from College Board on "college preparedness" as shown by - TopicsExpress

A report from College Board on "college preparedness" as shown by SAT scores. There are so many questions about this "fact" that are not even hinted at in the report in the Chronicle. The "fact" is the average SAT number, everything else is actually an interpretation. Here are two: 1) I have read that in general the SAT score is not a very good predictor of college grades, for example. If so, nothing can be inferred from the average SAT score regarding college performance. (I have read this a number of places, as the result of scientific studies undertaken by people who do not work for College Board. I need to track these down to see exactly what is at play here. Certainly one should peruse any claim by the College Board about its exams predictive power especially carefully. Current leader brought us the Common Core, by the way.) 2) In general, scores on standardized tests are most tightly correlated with household income, so a drop in SAT scores may say nothing more than poverty is increasing in the US. It irritates me that numbers are presented without any thought or questioning. https://chronicle/article/Most-Students-Are-Unprepared/141919/
