A school bus driver is facing criminal charges nearly nine months after he blacked out and crashed into an Anaheim Hills embankment at 50 mph, injuring all 11 middle school students on board. One student had a shattered spine, and several had broken bones. Gerald Rupple, 25, allegedly failed to tell the school district that he had a medical condition that could cause him to black out. He knew telling the truth would negatively affect his employment,” according to prosecutors. Now he faces up to 19 years in prison if convicted of child abuse and endangerment, among other charges.
