A selection of films made as part of a ten hour film challenge by local pupils have been shortlisted for various youth film festivals around the world. The films were made as part of the Kids For Kids UK project last year, which was funded by Durham Area Action Partnership (AAP) and supported by Jack Drum Arts. It was run in partnership with Durham Gilesgate Sixth Form College and has had international success. ‘Our City’ made by a group of sixth formers from Durham Gilesgate has been shortlisted for screening at the Seoul International Youth Film Festival in South Korea and can be viewed here: vimeo/54130825 ‘The Flying Miracle’ made by another group of talented youngsters at the college will be shown at the Pequeno Cineasta Film Festival in Brazil as well as Seoul and closer to home at the Co-op Film Festival in Bradford: vimeo/54186034 ‘Rainy Day’, also by another gifted group, will also be shown at the Pequeno Cineasta Film Festival: vimeo/54192499 Durham AAP, one of 14 set up by Durham County Council in 2009 to help the authority better engage with residents, granted £5,000 towards the cost of the project. John Murphy, AAP coordinator, said: “This project just shows what great work our young people can do with a little bit of professional guidance and encouragement.”
