A session by Students For Co-operation at People and Planets Shared Planet 2013 which is the UK’s largest student conference on world poverty, human rights and the environment. It’s a weekend packed full of inspiring speakers, practical and informative workshops, debates, films, stalls and fun. Here is the description for the session which will be in the afternoon on Saturday. Co-operatives are democratically run businesses run on the basis of benefitting their members as opposed to shareholders. Student co-ops come in all shapes and sizes from food to housing to bicycle shops, and the past two years have seen an explosion in their popularity. In this session hosted by Students For Co-operation, a new federation of student co-ops, you will be able to learn about the first steps of setting a co-op up, the potential models and the support mechanisms that are there to help you create a successful group and ethical business.
