A squawk code is issued to an aircraft when they receive their initial clearance/ifr flight or on first contact with Atc if requesting flight following (for VFR flight).it also displays sme of that information next to the aircrafts icon on the radar displays .It is fairly uncommon to have the controller ask u to change the squawk code.Like example you provided,.121.1 is a ground frequency,so the controller most said squawk standy whch means turns off your transponders autoreply . :) you get it FO HAFIZ and Cpt Aiman? so En Route now
