A stack of jobs as Costco moves into Ringwood June 11, 2013, 10:01 a.m. AMERICAN discount supermarket giant Costco will open its second Melbourne store in Ringwood next year, bringing with it an expected 350 to 400 jobs. Construction of the 14,500 square-metre warehouse at the old Ringwood market site is expected to start within months. Costco is recruiting employees to staff the Bond Street store, which is expected to open late August. Costco shoppers pay an annual membership fee of $60 to shop at its stores which specialise in discount groceries and household goods in bulk, as well as whitegoods and furniture and luxury items such as jewellery. In a further jobs boost, says Maroondah mayor Nora Lamont, more retail jobs will be created as part of the $500 million redevelopment of Eastland. The Costco store will be only the second to open in Melbourne since the retail giant entered the Australian market in 2009, with a warehouse store at Docklands. The project is currently out to tender. - with The Age
