A story I was never able to tell until now about a impromptu Static X / Society 1 collaboration. That’s right way back in early 2008 I was putting together a metal series similar to Headbangers Balls with Tera Wray as the host. At the time Wayne and her were dating and he wanted to be involved in getting the series off the ground. He ended up actually helping by producing portions of it and getting some good bands for interviews. (His fake producers name was Jack Keener.) Although we felt that was a good start having him in the series would have really put it over the top. In 2008 Static X was going strong, actually to strong to be associated with a scumbag like me. His label and management refused to allow his participation especially when it came to singing on a track he was writing for the series. At the last minute while we were in editing Wayne had the idea to film him only from behind. Seriously we shot an interview and him recording in his house studio only from the back and in shadows. It was laughable to all of us because everyone would know it was him because of the hair. That only left us with one problem. The track that he recorded for the series. It couldn’t have his vocals on it (or even be credited to him). So he sent me the track, I wrote the lyrics and I ran into a backyard studio and threw down some vocals doing my best Wayne Static style (which is not very good). Sent it off to editor and it was done. The track became a Static X / Society 1 collaboration unexpectedly but no one could know about it. I’ve included a little snippet below to check out. Wayne recorded everything you hear and that’s me on the vocals. He actually listened later and let me know he liked it. Honestly I was so embarrassed but hey it was cool to do and how many people can say they were able to sing on a song Wayne wrote and recored? Video: youtu.be/lC-WVBAbFwI
