A story about the rapper DMX has gone viral and as we suspected - TopicsExpress

A story about the rapper DMX has gone viral and as we suspected yesterday, the ridiculous story of DMX supposedly arrested recently in a dog fighting ring is a HOAX. We knew it was false for several reasons and we urge you to please start to question what you are sharing. Ways to determine what is a credible source for news and/or determining if news is accurate: 1. The main media power houses have not shared the news. 2. The only media source is an online, unknown source. 3. Local media to the supposed location has not shared the story. 4. There is no exact location for the incident. 5. There is no author for the piece. 6. There is no date. 7. Use reasoning. In this case, other than all of the missing factors, DMX could have been involved in a dog fighting ring, but lets look at another popular piece that was shared recently regarding dog fighting in Nevada. The piece stated that to increase revenue in tourism in Nevada, that the state was considering making dog fighting legal. Dog fighting is a federal crime. THINK - how could this possibly happen? Just as we immediately get our backs up when the news reports of a pit bull bite, we should use the same scrutiny before we hit Share. We are NOT DMX fans, but we are responsible for sharing accurate information and using discretion, reasoning and intellect when deciphering what is credible news and what is online trash. Anyone can share information, but it takes work to shift through the media noise to determine what is credible. snopes/media/notnews/dmxdogfighting.asp
