A story of Cinco de Mayo that reverberates into eternity... When we first moved to Virignia the pastor of the church we attended was born and raised in Mexico City. Sam Espinoza (who called himself II Samuel because there was another Pastor Sam that preceded him) shared with me a story that I have made a habit of re-telling on Cinco de Mayo. Sams grandfather fought in the Battle of Puebla in 1861. His grandfather was captured in the course of the fighting between the Mexican Army and the French Army. His French captor gave Sams grandfather a bilingual French-Spanish Bible as he was put into his prison cell. His grandfather began to read the Bible for the first time in his life - in a language he understood. As a result of this he became a follower of Christ. Sams grandfather had five children. Each one of these went into ministry. Sams father in turn had five children and each one of Sams siblings went into ministry as well. The legacy of the power of Scripture in the heart language.
