In the meantime I think there are other possible remedies to police excesses, that should also be pursued, including : - Improvements in police training to favor non-violent over violent intervention wherever possible - Corresponding overhaul of police organizational culture - Biting the fiscal bullet to allow adequate pay and staffing for police Im a psych nurse, and in that field most of my professional life since 1979. During that time, Ive seen measures like these have changed staff behavior and attitudes dramatically for the better. They also make a huge difference in how patients see and respond to us.
