A team of internationally renowned war crimes prosecutors and forensic experts says there is clear evidence of the systematic torture and execution of about 11,000 detainees in Syria by the government of Bashar al-Assad. The investigators says their findings are based on thousands of images of dead prisoners allegedly smuggled out of Syria by a government defector who was a photographer for the military police. The report was commissioned by the Gulf state of Qatar, which supports Syrian rebel groups. The Syrian government continues to deny accusations of human rights abuses.
