A tribute to John Lennon. John Lennon was born on October 9, 1940 in Liverpool, Merseyside, England, during a German air raid in World War II. He would eventually become part of one of the most successful and famous bands of the 20th century, The Beatles, which still draws legions of fans to this day. He left The Beatles in 1969 and pursued a solo career, releasing several albums with his wife Yoko Ono. His last album, Double Fantasy, was released just prior to his tragic death. On December 8, 1980, he was assassinated by a demented fan, Mark David Chapman, in front of his apartment building. Lennon was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. He would have been 73 years old today.
