A tribute to Phil Robertson: On a lighter note concerning Mr. Phil Robertson. Some people see him as nothing but a redneck hillbilly. The former may be slightly accurate only because of his lifestyle and where he resides. The latter couldnt be any further from the truth. One, people would know this if theyve ever watched the show and heard him converse. Two, he attended Louisiana Tech University on a full football scholarship. Aside from ability, those arent offered unless you have the grades to match. Three, the result of his college work was a Masters in Education and a B.A. in Physical Education. Anyway, Phil played as first string quarterback, two years ahead of a more well known football player by the name of Terry Bradshaw. Terry said Phil would show up at practice with squirrel tails hanging out of his pocket and duck feathers on his clothes. He played football all but his senior year at LTU. Although Bradshaw played his entire time at LTU and was the #2 NFL draft choice after graduation, Phil was personally offered(not draft related) the opportunity to play for the Washington Redskins. He turned down the offer. His reason? It would interfere too much with his hunting schedule! The basis behind him starting Duck Commander, and thus going on to the multi-millionaire status he has today, was the fact he was dissatisfied by the duck calls being sold at the time. So, he developed a duck call that actually sounded like a real duck. It was so innovative, it received a patent in 1972. Duck Commander thus began and was incorporated in 1973. This answers the question(one I have asked myself) of how a person could build a multi-million dollar business by just manufacturing and selling duck calls. The rest, as they say, is history. The only reason I decided to share this information is to show why Phil Robertson is, to me, one of the men in this wonderful nation who deserves to be greatly admired and deeply respected by everyone, regardless of any pre-conceived stereotypical beliefs they may embrace.
