A trip to Hatu was a trekkers paradise. Unfortunately today it’s difficult to distinguish it from the numerous tourist dens that litter Himachal’s hinterlands. What transformed Hatu , was the 6 kilometer asphalted road constructed right to the top. Himachal C. M. Virbhadra Singh, a man given to all manner of religious ceremonies doesn’t miss his annual visit to the Hatu temple. Walking up the steep mountain was out of the question for the CM who is now pushing 80 and revered as a Raja by the locals. So thousands of trees were put to the axe to make a smooth, flawless Hatu road for this stately pilgrimage. My story on Hatu Peak, Himachal.
