A true story of the bond between strangers and a dog. (I wrote it a little lengthy, sorry) July 2013, a Facebook post was circulating about a Craigslist ad where someone was asking for dog food and a crate. The ad went on to explain that they had agreed to watch a strangers dog for a week and get paid $150.00 (yes we know….). Two weeks had gone by and the guy never came back for the dog and was not able to reached. The family had NO idea what to do with a 9 month old English bulldog pit mix. They weren’t wanting a dog nor did they have the means for caring one; however they had fallen in love with her. They had just had a baby a few months prior and bought a new house; money was very tight. A lot of people assumed that this Craigslist ad was someone looking to pull a scam. Yet no one had offered to step up to help them. Immediately I reached out to “poster” and told her I would help her the best I could. After communicating for a few days I finally meet Dutchess (the 9 month old 85lb puppy), Carlene (mom) and 2month old baby MJ. I gave them some donated dog food, one of my personal crates, toys and a shot and went about my way. One and half years later I will randomly get text messages from Carlene letting me know how Dutchess is doing. Her son, MJ, is now two years old. Today I received one of these messages and this is what it said: “They (Mj and Dutchess) are best of friends. MJ was recently deathly sick and for 24 hours Dutchess didn’t leave his side; not even to eat. Thank you again for helping us out. We didn’t even know we wanted a dog or even how to care for one. Now I can’t see our lives without her in it.” This made me cry. The fact that she still thought of me and cared enough to let me know how Dutchess was doing. Please understand this story isn’t about me personally, it is about stepping up and saying YES to help others who truly need a helping hand. That day a dog was saved from going to the pound and a new bond between strangers and a dog was formed. THE END!!!!
