A very good article on the case of Marine A. What he did was technically illegal, by the standards and rules of modern warfare, as set by our civil society. However, this is a war peculiar in the savagery of the enemy. An enemy with no ethical or moral human standards towards how they fight their own enemy - our people. What Marine A did was technically wrong, theres no escaping that - but - his actions are completely understandable to many of us. Clemency must be shown with his sentence. For the record, for those that dont know, the enemy that Marine A despatched was initially found mortally wounded with a missing left leg, after being hit by the 30mm cannon of an Apache helicopter gunship. In my eyes, at least he was despatched humanely. This case is where it is because it involves a Marine from a generic war-fighting Unit. If you dont think that the governments of civil societies, including our own, have conducted killings outside the scope of normal law, using specialist military units and personnel, youd be very niave indeed.
