A very interesting workshop with 2 Ofsted inspectors yesterday at the conference. I think I may have posted this doc before, but I will put it in files also. The advice given was to go through this and have it with you on the day of your inspection so that you can prepare for & answer all the areas/questions that you will be judged on throughout the inspection. If you work with an assistant, they also need to be at the same level of knowledge as you as far as EYFS/Safeguarding is concerned if they work with the preschool children, and they will need to be present to be inspected at the same time as you. Happy reading girls! I am going to go through it at some point soon, even though I am not due an inspection yet, just so as Ive got the heads up! The message from the inspectors (they are Trio trainers too, thats why they were delivering the workshop), is to be safe in your knowledge, you dont have to have it written down, but you do need to talk the talk. Know your children and evidence the progress they are making through the teaching that you are providing. Again, your evidence can be verbal on the day, but you need to have a good understanding of the child, where they started, where they are at and how you can move them on. The phrase is now Characteristics of effective teaching and learning and you need to be able to show that you understand how children learn and what you do/provide to enable learning. Hope that is helpful :) ofsted.gov.uk/resources/evaluation-schedule-for-inspections-of-registered-early-years-provision
