A very long time ago I dropped my iPad mini, cracking one corner of the digitizer. It still worked fine. About a week later, I left it on the floor by my couch and stepped on it in the dark. The whole digitizer shattered at that point. After researching on the Internet, I decided I could fix it myself. I ordered a digitizer which is the very thin glass that is on the front. While prying the old one off, I cracked the actual display screen which is behind the digitizer, draws the pretty pictures and is much harder to break, unless you are a clumsy idiot like me. So I ordered a new display. Got everything together but the digitizer would not stick to the rest of the case. I stacked some heavy books on it and left it overnight. The next day the digitizer had a horizontal crack right across it and would not work anymore. After the second replacement digitizer arrived I did not have the guts or patience to try again so I left it on a shelf for a couple of months. I just got it together and it works. The digitizer doesnt really stick to the rest of the iPad but my case holds everything together pretty well. I am using the iPad to type this now. However, I would not do it again. My advice is to wrap your iPad up in foam and keep it off the floor.
