A victory for patients! A Medicare, Medicaid ruling has ensured a level playing field between nutrition professionals and registered dietitians® in hospitals in Michigan. With my educational history, being trained as a chiropractic physician, I am aware of the potential consequences when political decisions prevent an entire profession from practicing. There are so many fabulous nutritionists, registered dietitians, acupuncturists, naturopaths, chiropractors, osteopaths, and medical physicians whose knowledge and dedication can bring life-changing benefits to their patients. There is no single approach or diet that fits all, and different disciplines bring different areas of expertise and fresh perspectives. I am therefore thrilled that hospitals and the public in Michigan are now permitted to select and work with the nutritional professionals whom they consider will best meet their needs. Has the insight of a complementary practitioner changed your life? What would be the loss to you if complementary healthcare practitioners were unable to practice in your state?
