A volunteer writes - March 2014: Castros owner lost the battle with his landlord...Castro must go and this is why this 12 year old patriarch is once again in our walls. No wonder he is lost and cranky, barking weakly and aimlessly when he is tethered or at the camera. His pride is hurt. The kennel, the hallways, the yard, the street are not what he knows. His head is always down as he sniffs the ground, not believing it seems that he is back in the same place he was few months ago. He is a beautiful dog still who had no doubt about it a very important place amidst his human family. His former owner so wish that Castro finds a place that will respect and cherish him as he deserves. He made sure to tell us that his beloved pet loves stuffed toys ... Castro has a faint limp but walks well around the block. He is housetrained , of course. He meets other dogs like one can expect from an elderbull. He still has an eye for the girls...He seems mixed up as far as I am concerned.. Who is this woman now...She gives me treats, asks me to sit, caresses me.... What is this all about? I am too old for all this... Castro finally gives in and settles by me. He wags a little his tail, lifts his head and looks at me. Now what? Well, Now what? will depend on someone willing to offer a place for Castro to spend the rest of his life, his golden years... as an older dog should. Will you be Castros hero. He soon will need you. Castro is at the Manhattan Care Center, still ready and believing that he can make a master happy to have him by his or her side.
