A weak Hadeeth: In regards to the first 3 verses of Surah al-Fajr: {1. By the Fajr (Dawn) 2. By the ten nights (i.e. the first 10 days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah. 3. And by the even and the odd.} The following Hadeeth is quoted: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم is supposed to have said: The ten days are the Days of Dhul-Hijjah and the odd is the Day of `Arafah and the even is the Eid. [Musnad of Imaam Ahmad (3/327), al-Bazzaar, Ibn Jareer & Ibn Katheer in their respective books of Tafseer] Even though Ibn Rajab graded this Hadeeth as Hasan, the Hadeeth is weak. Shaikh al-Albaanee graded it as Munkar (rejected) in al-Dha`eefah (3178 & 3938). In its chain Abu Zubair who is a Mudallis. Ibn Katheer after mentioning this Hadeeth said: And for me, attributing the Hadeeth to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم is objectionable. The more authentic Hadeeth regarding the Merits of the first 10 days is: Narrated Ibn `Abbaas رضي الله عنهما:The Prophet (ﷺ) said, No good deeds done on other days are superior to those done on these (first ten days of Dhul Hijjah). Then some companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) said, Not even Jihad? He replied, Not even Jihad, except that of a man who does it by putting himself and his property in danger (for Allahs sake) and does not return with any of those things. [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree] And Allaah is the One Who grants success.
