A wee debate going on in the Facebook group, Ontario Birds. This photo was posted and some say Northern Goshawk, others, well...only me...at least at this moment, say it is but a lovely....Coop! I said Coop, by: Thin streaks on a bright white base (ventral); Gos juves show broader streaks (most times) on a buffy base (almost always); the streaking is always busier than what is seen on this specimen; this bird is very pale throughout the head and nape, of which sharply contrasts a brownish back; Gos juvs most often show a rufous nape and a darker wash to the head (lending to less contrast); juvenile Gos, in most cases are highly-speckled along the shoulder and back and show tawny-tipped scapulars. As well, Goss in most cases show a dark wash throughout the face & auriculars - this bird lacks that. I would also add: Unmarked undertail coverts.
