A while back Betsy Daley called me out on my uncritical admiration for New York Times writer Thomas L. Friedman. She was right, as usual. Still, this essay turned up last weekend and I hope I can be forgiven some of the old excitement. How is this for a succinct statement of our project: infrastructure investment, replacing income and corporate taxes with a carbon tax, a major new push for both energy efficiency and properly extracted natural gas, skill-building and immigration reform and gradual long-term fiscal rebalancing.
