A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle. A fish does not need a bicycle; a woman does not need a man--I get it. You dont have to look too far below the surface before it starts to fall apart. A fish doesnt understand what a bicycle is. A fish is not capable of putting a bicycle to its intended use. A woman, however, understands perfectly well what a man is and she is quite capable of putting one to its intended use. Woman and fish are not very similar, but at least both are alive. Man and bicycle dont have even that in common. A bicycle has no sentience, will, or agency. A bicycle is not a partner or an adversary; it is merely a thing to be used. One might assert that in order to come up with such a saying--or to like it, quote it, sticker it on your bumper--that one must have certain reprehensible attitudes toward men. But one would be employing the paranoid tactics characteristic of feminist scholars, so one wont assert that.
