A wonderful little entry from the Minutes of the Shaftesbury Society from February 1944. (Top marks to the British Postal Service): "Two postal orders for £1 each from a subscriber in South Africa had been washed ashore off the cost of French Guinea and duly delivered to the Society, although the only wording decipherable was the secretary’s name. It was agreed that a letter should be sent to the Times, complimenting the postal authorities on their efficiency."
