A woodpecker, a gray jay, and a magpie were at the smorgasbird today, along with the usual flocks of chickadees, both black-cap and chestnut. I watched the squirrel do a seemingly impossible athletic run across the lower branches of 4 trees, on twigs that looked too small to support it. At the end, it leaped from a branch to the cabin roof, then swung down onto a porch roof support, snagged a chunk of bread from a feeder, and vanished.
