A word about my mother, Vicki Terry: My mom is about to embark on her 39th year of public school teaching. As the wife of a pastor whose ministry took him from state to state, retirement looks to be nowhere in her future. No 60-year-old wants to be competing at interviews with newer, younger teachers for new jobs; however, as I dropped her off at Bryan Station High School this morning for a week of professional development (in my mind, the last thing she needs), I did not see her walk into the building defeated & tired, but with a spring in her step & a smile on her face. Though I know she wishes retirement were an option for her; she remains thankful she has a position, optimistic about her profession and willing to learn anything new that might help her be an even better teacher in an ever-changing world. Simply WHO SHE IS should serve as an outstanding example for the students of the present day in which we live!
