A word from my brother. Thank you to all who listen. If my written text ever falls short in explanation, spend 7 minutes and gain better understanding of why I am doing this, by video. No, talking about having been so close to suicide is not easy. It is not glamorous. It is not acceptable by social norms. As humans, we see taboo. We prefer to ignore these things and tuck them neatly away into a forgotten pile. Stigma is real. I have been called and accused of many things just for admitting that I, once, almost killed myself. I do not care about those things, because I do it for a reason. I want veterans and people to know that you can take care of yourself and get better instead of suffering in silence. They can have issues and get help. Get help and get stronger, like I did. I never want to be a statistic. 22 veterans a day killing themselves is largely preventable if we change the way we think as a nation and a demographic. It requires awareness. I do not enjoy being called a drama queen, an attention whore, a narcissist(of all things), etc. I was not pressured to do this by anyone or any nefarious agenda. I do this because I feel it is the right thing to do. I do this because it was real for me, and IS very real and ever present for too many of my brothers and sisters-in-arms who suffer in silence at this very moment. Also, if you are near the edge of choosing a permanent solution for a temporary problem, call me. Anytime, 24/7. 7065366146. I am not a licensed professional, but I will listen. Or call a friend, or a suicide hotline, or a family member, or anyone. You are worth it. Please, keep the crank calls to a minimum... All I ask.
