A year ago this clinic was a dream that took traction with action. Although the odds were stacked against me, I set out to build a large, beautiful facility devoted to treating headaches without narcotics. I wanted people with headaches to have access to dignified, appropriate treatment and care. My clinic started with one employee last June, Elizabeth Donovan Woodall. Together we found a space and built 6 exam rooms in a spa-like zen atmosphere. We enlisted the help of many experts and community leaders. Thank you Jerome and Holly Foster, Jackie Williams and Kelly Englemann, Michelle McLeod and Tesera Malone. With the support of the American Headache Society, the National Headache Foundation, the Madison County Business League, the Ridgeland Chamber of Commerce, the Mississippi Nurses Association, Renaissance at Colony Park (and their phenomenal staff), Crosstown Builders (Todd Sandridge and Trey Pace) , Representatives Doug McLeod and Rita Martinson, Mayors Gene Magee and Mary Hawkins Butler, Senators Will Longwitz and Terry Burton, and pharmaceutical reps, friends, family, amazing patients and of course our lawyers, we have managed to persevere. Our patients have been underserve for years, treating their symptoms with over-the-counter pain meds, decongestants, and narcotics. 48% have never been appropriately diagnosed and treated with FDA approved treatment specifically targeted for migraine or cluster headaches. Lisha Wilcher and Ashlyn Manning, RNs joined us when we opened in October. With over 40 years of nursing experience, they promote education and they work with the insurance providers to get the medications and treatments approved for the patients. We have 3 designated treatment rooms for IV infusions and acute injections for intractable headache relief. Thanks to all our friends and supporters and patients. Also, thanks to the 40+ referring physicians and nurse practitioners that send us patients and have helped us grow our practice so that we may educate patients and empower them to have control of their chronic condition. Our mission is to spread the word that headaches are preventable and treatable and that a better quality of life exists out there with the proper treatment and guidance. Thanks to Bud Robinson, Greg Brand, Don Griffin and Regions and Community banks for helping us find the resources to support our mission. (Thanks to Amex, Visa, and Mastercard, too.;) Thank you Liesl Mildred for the flowers, support and encouragement. Also thanks to Shivang Joshi and Ira M. Turner, MDs, our friends and mentors with the American Headache Society® and to Mary Franklin and Dr. Roger Cady with the National Headache Foundation. And, thanks to Dr. Eric K. Underssor, Chief of Neurology at the VA for all your support. Thank you Mary Linda Moss for all you do for us. Last but not least, thanks to my children, Atticus, Henri Kate, Oliver and Ella Frances Long and to Paul and Crea Shelton. Thank you all for you many prayers.
