A year ago today, my family received the heartbreaking news that our baby girl, Claire, would be born with a serious heart defect leaving her with half a heart and a lifetime of struggles. As devastating as that day and the days that followed were, it is unbelievable that one year later our family would be rejoicing not only in the beautiful gift of our daughter but in the blessings that a community of followers has bestowed on our family. My husband and I were blown away from the show of support we received when we first shared the news about Claire, and we never anticipated the support that would follow. From the silent prayers whispered in Claire’s name, to the meals prepared for our family and to the fundraising events that rallied support for Claire’s medical expenses, you all have been there with us every step of the way. There were many days in the hospital when your words or actions lifted me out of despair. There were also many times when another heart mom asked me what I did about housing or financing and I was so blessed to be able to say I didn’t need to worry because our community helped me take care of it. Our journey has been an amazing one. The bible says, “truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Even on our darkest days and the days yet to come, I am not afraid. God has shown that he is walking with us on this road and He has used each and every one of you along the way. There is not a day that passes that we do not come face-to-face with one of His blessings and offer up a prayer of thanksgiving in response. Words will never be enough to truly express our profound gratitude to everyone who showed so much love, support and generosity to our family.
