A year ago today, the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh collapsed, killing over 1,100 people and injuring thousands more. It was the deadliest workplace incident in the history of the garment industry and exposed the appalling conditions in which our clothes are made. In the wake of the disaster thousands of you joined our campaign calling on retailers to sign up to the Bangladesh Safety Accord. The result was unprecedented. Over 150 global brands, including H&M, Tesco, Zara and Marks & Spencer, bowed to pressure and signed the legally binding agreement to pay for factory improvements and guarantee rights for trade unions. But some brands – including Gap – are still refusing to sign. On today of all days we need to remind them of their duty to do the right thing by the workers who make their clothes. TAKE ACTION NOW and call on the UK government to force companies to ensure workplace safety for garment workers in Bangladesh.
