A year has passed since I lost one of my best friends. Comet - TopicsExpress

A year has passed since I lost one of my best friends. Comet was an amazing lady. She hardly ever huffed, puffed, or even looked unhappy. Anyone could pet her, hold her, even boop her on the nose. She was a true ambassador for hedgies everywhere. She was a wonderful cuddler, helping me through some hard times with just her warmth and understanding. Her eyes held a gentle intelligence that spoke volumes. At around 6 years old she was in the midst of her 2nd abdominal tumor removal surgery when an oral tumor was found in the roof of her mouth. The surgery was a success and she was sent home to heal before attempting to debulk the tumor in her mouth. Within 3 days of her surgery, she was letting me know it was time. Once again, her eyes said everything, and when she laid her head against my hand, I knew. When a she was no longer able to eat or drink, I helped her cross over. I think about her often, and keep her close in my heart. There will never be another hedgie like her. She was a true friend, and the time we spent together was a precious gift I will be forever thankful for. Her story and her legacy live on in the information she was able to provide about cancer in hedgies. It is my hope that one day her death will have yielded some small sliver of insight that will save the life of someone elses precious friend.
