A year or so ago my mother joined the world of facebook... Naturally, I flatly refused her digital hand of friendship. In fact, I took a visit to northfield were she resided in our family home and requested an emergency meeting with said mother, my father and the cat. We agreed that our digital world should not collide and signed the agreement. Even a friend request was forbidden... The boundaries were set.... all parties walked away understanding the situation. The next day I saw the following... Julia Sheila Fell and Martina Fell are now friends... Nothing unusual I thought. A simple friendship between mother and daughter. The next day I saw... Julia Sheila Fell and Dolores Crawford are now friends... Again, her niece, my cousin, nothing unusual there. Some light camaraderie between family. I continued with my day. The following week I witnessed... Julia Sheila Fell and Richard Shakespeare are now friends... Richard, Goodnight Lenins firm Allie and photographer... hmmmmm... wary but fearing paranoia I said nothing. THEN IT STRUCK!!!! LIKE HITLER MOVING INTO THE SUDETENLAND... I SAW THE FOLLOWING!! Julia Sheila Fell and John Joe McCreedy are now friends... My fears were confirmed!!! She was indeed making in roads to creating a digital empire of close friends of mine! Soon all of Goodnight Lenin (Poland) had fallen... I panicked... I quickly put together an emergency meeting with my dad and the cat. My hopes were to bring him into the digital world as my number 1 Allie and distract my mother from making further in roads... Alas, the talks broke down in the 11th hour as the theme tune to BBC daytime, and some would say hit, drama Doctors rang out in the fell household... I had lost him, he had his own battles... I felt isolated.... and then.... Julia Sheila Fell and Grace Diviney are now friends.... my heart sank... Grace, who I saw as a close friend and strong member of the resistance (France) had fallen to my mother cruel and grueling digital expansion.... With her tanks firmly parked on my hypothetical lawn... There it was... a comment on one of my photos. She had waited until one of her new friends, my fallen comrade, had commented and moved in with a simple... You look lovely John and with that I held up my white flag and pressed send on the friend request button. I doth my cap to a long fought out battle to which there could only be one winner. A cleverly devised plan, that was executed to such perfection, that even a digital social networking veteran like myself didnt stand a chance. I raise my capri-sun to the winner.... Julia Sheila Fell. I leave you with these last words...... Julia Sheila Fell and John Anthony Fell are now friends... Well played mother.... well played x
