A young Mauritanian has been sentenced to death for apostasy of Islam Wednesday evening by a court of Nouadhibou, in the northeast of the country. This was announced a judicial source. Mohamed Ould Cheikh Mohamed, in an article published on some websites, had criticized decisions made by Muhammad and his companions. The announcement of the judgment has been hailed in the classroom and in the city by shouts of exultation and carousels car. For the prosecution the accused had talked lightly of the Prophet and deserved the death penalty, as provided by the Penal Code in the case of apostasy Mauritanian Islam. Mauritania is in force Islamic law. The death penalty is still scheduled, but is no longer applied since 1987.
