I absolutely love it when I watch a highly recommended film and it surpasses even the highest expectations, not unlike #Prisoners. A twisty psychological crime thriller, the film revolves around every loving parents biggest nightmare: a missing/abducted child. The film has three ingredients that make it so special: a tight suspenseful script, stupendous direction (by Canadian director Denis Villeneuve) and (perhaps its biggest selling point) fantastic performances. Ever reliable character actors such as Paul Dano, Melissa Leo and Viola Davis are all top notch; hell even Hugh Jackman ditches the Wolverine routine and gives his most mature and serious performance to date. But the film belongs to Jake Gyllenhaal (a tremendous actor who receives nowhere near as much praise as he richly deserves) who delivers an Oscar worthy performance as Detective Loki, the detective assigned with finding the aforementioned missing child and in the process ends up unearthing some rather disturbing secrets. Its sad to see that Gyllenhaal was not even nominated for his performance. Overall the film was an evening very well spent! :D
