A young woman peered down at me with beautiful, round features and a warm sun kissed smile. What is going on? she asked me. Que yo trai este Sundae para ti I said in challenged Spanish, holding up the ice cream sundae I had just bought from an ice cream truck, not knowing why - since I was fasting - but knowing it was for someone. Oh, now youre going to have to marry her! Her dad shouted at me. Oh no, no, I said. The sundae was for her, but that takes time! We will see. No, no you do something romantic like that for a girl and you have to marry her! I gave my biggest grin I could and looked back up at the window where the girl still stood smiling and giggling at me. Here you are! I said, giving her the Sundae. Oh thank you! She said. I smiled at her again and turned away sheepishly since, well, it was a romantic moment, but I knew I was on a different path, and I didnt want to hurt her feelings by leading her on. Her dad offered me a place to sit and asked if I wanted some food. The girl had disappeared from the balcony and so I sat on the only available space - a water cooler - and enjoyed my impromptu Romeo moment. Especially, I enjoyed seeing why God had told me to buy an expensive sundae when there were many cheaper options. I only had a few dollars left which I wanted for marijuana, but I thought to myself I know in my heart that if I feel guided to do this, I must be provided for in my needs! And Im glad I did because it wouldnt have been very romantic to propose to her with an ice cream sandwich! Happy fourth of July everbody!
