A youth wing of the pro-Bamanga Tukur faction of the Peoples - TopicsExpress

A youth wing of the pro-Bamanga Tukur faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the auspices of the PDP Arewa Democrats (PAD), has threatened to close any office of the New PDP that is now on ground or will be opened in the near future anywhere in the North-west geo-political zone of the country. In a statement issued by PAD Sunday, the group also endorsed the closure of the New PDP office in Abuja, describing the action by the police as legal and in conformity with approved security procedures. The statement signed by its National Chairman and Secretary, Alhaji Garba Na-Mata and Mr Dogara Musa, said it supports “the firm resolution of our youth wing, which has decided to close down similar offices that may exist or emerge in all the seven states of the North-west.” The group also “directed all its members in the 19 northern states to take legal steps to close down any branch of the New PDP in their states.” It pointed out that in the wake of recent developments in the PDP, it had thrown its weight behind President Goodluck Jonathan, saying the Kawu Baraje-led split was an “attempt by those who do not wish the country well to distract and derail the administration from achieving its laudable goal.” They advised the presidency to be extraordinarily careful in dealing with the Chairman of the Board of Trustee is (BoT) of PDP, Chief Tony Anenih, whose comments since the special convention of the party had shown that he was at home with the dissidents. “How could the chairman of the BoT, who is properly briefed on developments in the party and had previously taken a trip round the country on reconciliation, be massaging the ego of the dissidents and saying they have genuine grievances? “It only shows that Anienih is still dinning and wining with his friends in the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), where was a prominent chieftain until the renegades registered the party few weeks ago,” the statement added. The group said the Tukur-led leadership of PDP and the presidency should ignore the ranting of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and his minions as Atiku, whom they described as a “nomadic politician” was trying to be relevant in the political calculation of the country post-2015. “Atiku is living in a past glory and fool’s paradise, whoever follows him will have himself to blame for committing political suicide. No amount of religious and ethnic politics can make him achieve his goal of ruling this country, as it is God that gives power,” the statement said. The group said they were solidly behind Jonathan and had no inhabitation or encumbrance in recommending the president as the party’s standard bearer in 2015, adding that Jonathan’s administration has been “too fair “to the northern part of the country.” The group advised those not persuaded by their submission to compare the North of 1999 to 2008 and the region under Jonathan since he took over from the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
